Privacy Policy

Safety and Security

Effective date: September 18, 2026

The Fooled No More Foundation (the “Foundation,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates www.foolednomore.org (the “Site”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect through the Site, why we use it, when it may be shared, and the choices available to you.

Safety first

The Site provides education, practical tools, and connections to independent resources. It is not a crisis hotline, emergency-response service, law firm, or mental-health provider, and the Site is not monitored continuously.

Contact forms, chat features, email, and other Site communications are not confidential or privileged. Do not submit information that could place you or another person at risk if it were seen, stored, or intercepted. If you are in immediate danger, call 911 when it is safe to do so. For confidential support in the United States, contact the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 800-799-SAFE (7233), text START to 88788, or visit thehotline.org.

Using a quick-exit feature or leaving the Site may not erase browser history, downloads, messages, or other device records.

Information we collect

1. Information you provide. This may include your name, email address, telephone number, subject line, message, newsletter preferences, account information, and any other information you choose to submit through a contact form, newsletter form, chat feature, member feature, fundraiser-support form, or email.

2. Donation and transaction information. Donations are processed through Givebutter and its payment partners. We do not receive or store your full payment-card number. We may receive donor contact information, gift amount and date, campaign or designation information, public or anonymous display preferences, messages, and transaction or receipt records from Givebutter.

3. Site-use and technical information. Wix and other service providers may automatically collect information such as IP address, approximate location derived from IP address, browser and device type, operating system, referring and exit pages, pages viewed, timestamps, cookie identifiers, and interactions with the Site.

4. Account and interactive-feature information. If you create a Site-member account or use an interactive feature, we may receive account identifiers, profile information, settings, and activity associated with that feature.

5. Communications. If you communicate with us by email, form, chat, or another channel, we may retain the communication and related contact information. Content entered into Wix chat or AI-enabled features may be processed by Wix and its service providers to operate those features.

We do not intentionally request detailed medical records, legal files, government identification numbers, financial-account credentials, or another person’s private story through general Site forms. Avoid sending highly sensitive information unless we specifically request it through an appropriate channel and explain why it is needed.

How we use information

We may use information to:

• respond to inquiries and resource-navigation requests;
• send newsletters or updates that you requested and manage subscription preferences;
• administer donations, acknowledgments, receipts, campaigns, and donor records;
• operate, secure, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the Site;
• understand Site traffic and the usefulness of our educational content;
• manage accounts and interactive features where enabled;
• prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents;
• comply with legal, tax, accounting, and regulatory obligations; and
• protect the rights, safety, and property of visitors, the Foundation, and others.

We will not use information submitted through a request for help to diagnose a person, provide legal representation, create a therapist-client relationship, or guarantee a referral or service outcome.

Cookies and similar technologies

The Site is hosted on Wix. Wix uses cookies and similar technologies for essential functions such as security, stability, fraud prevention, session management, and Site performance. Depending on the features and integrations enabled, additional analytics, functional, or marketing technologies may also be used.

Where required, you may use the Site’s consent controls to accept or decline non-essential technologies. You may also manage cookies through your browser, although blocking essential cookies can affect Site functionality.

When information may be shared

We may share information only as reasonably necessary with:

• Wix and its service providers, which host and operate the Site and may provide forms, email, analytics, chat, account, security, and related functions;
• Givebutter and its payment partners, which process donations and provide fundraising, receipt, supporter, security, and transaction services;
• other vendors and professional advisers that help us operate the Foundation, subject to appropriate obligations;
• government authorities or other parties when disclosure is required by law, legal process, or a good-faith effort to protect rights or safety; and
• a successor organization in connection with a merger, reorganization, transfer of assets, or similar organizational change, subject to applicable law.

We do not sell personal information for monetary consideration. Third-party platforms process information under their own terms and privacy policies.

Retention

We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, to maintain appropriate nonprofit, donation, tax, accounting, security, and communication records, to resolve disputes, or to satisfy legal obligations. Retention periods vary by record type and applicable requirements. When information is no longer reasonably needed, we may delete, de-identify, or securely archive it, subject to technical limitations and lawful backup practices.

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures appropriate to the information we handle. No website, email, chat, or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure. You use online communications at your own risk and should consider device and account safety before submitting information.

Your choices and requests

You may:

• unsubscribe from marketing or newsletter emails using the link in the message;
• manage available cookie preferences through the Site or your browser;
• update information in your account, if an account feature is available; or
• ask to access, correct, or delete personal information that the Foundation controls.

Send privacy requests to info@foolednomore.org with “Privacy Request” in the subject line. We may need to verify your identity. We may retain information when required for legal, tax, security, donation-record, or other legitimate purposes. Rights vary by location, and we will respond as required by applicable law.

For information controlled directly by Wix, Givebutter, or another third party, you may also need to contact that provider.

Third-party links and resources

The Site links to independent hotlines, legal resources, mental-health resources, shelters, government services, social networks, donation platforms, and other websites. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies. A link does not mean the Foundation controls or endorses the third party’s data practices.

Children’s privacy

The Site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information online from a child under 13. If you believe a child has submitted personal information, contact us so we can review and, where appropriate, delete it.

Processing locations

Wix, Givebutter, and other providers may process information in the United States and other countries where they or their service providers operate. Privacy laws in those locations may differ from those where you live.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in the Site, our practices, or applicable requirements. We will post the revised policy on this page and update the effective date. Material changes may also be communicated through the Site or another appropriate channel.
